Assignment: Exposure... This week we had to experiment with exposure whether it be through shutter speed, aperture or metering. I use a Nikon Coolpix 995. For those not familiar with it, it is 3.34 megapixel and has a 4X zoom.

I had my camera on Matrix Metering and on Shutter Priority. I resized the images and compressed at 15%. Other than that no other changes were made. What an eye-opener!

My daughter was practicing her breaststroke and I really wanted to see if I could capture the water clearly. It was a bright sunny day here in Florida so using the high shutter speed wasn't a problem. Compression was 15%. Again, the difference amazed me.

I used Aperture Priority for these photos. The photo on the left (of my 2 daughters) was on auto settings and matrix metering. The photo on the right was on manual setting and set to spot metering. Not only does it eliminate the shadow on their faces but it takes the texture in the wall behind them out of play. I think I'm going to love these features..  Thanks for the great lesson!
